RE: [sdpd] Superman and SDPD
It's not impossible that the structure could have been predicted, but there's only a single BO3 group, the other two borons are tetrahedral, forming B2SiO7 single layers. Despite (in spite of?) the coincidence in composition that has got all the attention, the structure is quite interesting in its own right. Joel Grice is a co-author and he did a thorough job of comparing the topology with available known structures.

The PCOD contains 232 hypothetical borosilicates (and much more
soon) : http://www.crystallography.net/pcod/ <http://www.crystallography.net/pcod/>
Is there a chance that the framework of the "kryptonite" was even
predicted ? (the structures have exclusively corner-sharing SiO4
tetrahedra and BO3 triangles).
