[sdpd] clay materials crystal structure

Dear powder solutioners,

I have noticed in the literature that some clay minerals, 
with a few citations under their belt, have no published 
crystal structure, just a few contributions from NMR and 
spectroscopy. With the ever increasing computer power and 
algorithms, is it possible to solve clay mineral crystal 
structures from powder?
and, has the direct space approach, now available in a few 
packages, brough any new advantage to tackle the problem.

If the answer is yes, what would be the ideal approach 
(sample preparation, data collection softaware package) 
would you advice?
