Hi Lachlan, I am posting to the mailing lists my reply to your personal email
because it should be of general interest. Even if people do not have access to
a local usenet news server, they can still use "dejanews" to read newsgroup
postings via the WWW (in addition to my archive of sci.techniques.xtallography
on http://www.ill.fr/news/ . For example, to read this newsgroup, go to:
http://search.dejanews.com/rn.xp?newsgroups=sci.techniques.xtallography
Of course, to post articles themselves, they still need an usenet news server.
http://www.dejanews.com/ is also a great way of finding old articles on
particular subjects, or by particular people.
While I'm giving advice, I can remind people about http://altavista.digital.com/
for finding information on just about any subject, while for finding emails, try:
http://www.onlineinc.com/database/OctDB/nets10.html and of course
http://www.iucr.ac.uk/docs/wdc9.html
But to answer your question directly, No :-) Hope this helps, Alan H.
