Re: Computing School Prior to the Osaka 2008 meeting

Hi

I'd go along with this - I think we had agreed on something more advanced
than the Siena school, with the idea of getting "young" active developers
to learn from/interact with the greybeards, as well as from each other. I
would go for a differently structured timetable...

I'd guess that we'd want to start from a list of people we'd want to talk
again from Siena, and go through it pretty carefully to see where it could
be improved. In my opinion, it's very important that we give the speakers
a proper brief so that they are discouraged from just going into how
wonderful their own particular program(s) is/are.

For quick reference, the list of speakers from Siena is at -

	http://www.iucr.org/iucr-top/comm/ccom/siena2005/speakers.html

and their slides at

	http://www.iucr.org/iucr-top/comm/ccom/siena2005/notes.html

(again, thanks to Lachlan for this).

We didn't have too much trouble getting a healthy quota of students for
Siena, so this might not be an issue.

Web access should be no problem at all - I think Japan is rather more
advanced than many European countries in this aspect!

Students should be encouraged to bring their own laptops (I think we did
this in Siena as well); if you are doing software development and going to
meetings these days it's very likely that you are well equipped!
