XIVth International Workshop on
Quantum Atomic and Molecular Tunneling in Solids and other Condensed Phases
We are pleased to announce that the 14th meeting of this international
workshop will be held at the Hilton Hotel on the campus of the University of Houston
in Houston, Texas, USA from Sunday, 28 October through Wednesday, 1 November 2007.
The hallmark of this workshop has been its highly cross-disciplinary
nature,
which includes work on tunneling of protons and heavier species in
condensed
phases in general, including biological systems, chemical reactions,
transport phenomena in solids, etc.
Experimental and theoretical aspects of the role of quantum atomic and
molecular tunneling phenomena will form the main theme of the workshop, on topics
such as:
- Proton tunneling in hydrogen bonds
- Tunneling in biological systems and enzyme catalysis
- Kinetic Isotope Effect
- Atomic and molecular tunneling on surfaces, in glasses and amorphous =
systems
- Tunneling in porous materials
- Proton Tunneling in water in confined spaces
- Rotational tunneling
- Tunneling diffusion phenomena
- Spin-tunneling problems
- Tunneling studies by NMR, and diffraction techniques
- Advances in spectroscopic and other experimental techniques
- Multidimensional tunneling theories
- Advances in computational methods
- Tunneling transport in superprotonic conductors, acids and bases
The scientific program is being arranged by the following International
Advisory
Committee:
- George Reiter (chair) University of Houston
- Amon Kohen, University of Iowa
- Juergen Eckert, University of California Santa Barbara
- Zorka Smedarchina, NRC Canada
- Beat Meier, ETH Z=FCrich
- Arieh Warshel, University of Southern California
- Miguel Garcia-Garibay, University of California Los Angeles
- Naresh Dalal, Florida State University
- Nigel Scrutton, University of Manchester
- John Larese, University of Tennessee
- Sharon Hammes-Schiffer, Penn State University
- Antonio Fernandez Ramos, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela
- Anthony Horsewill, University of Nottingham
The tentative deadlines for the submission of abstracts will be June 1,
2007,
and that for pre-registration August 1, 2007.
Further information regarding the program, invited speakers,
registration
and
submission of abstracts will shortly be available on the conference
webpage,
which will be announced separately.
In the meantime you may contact George Reiter (greiter@uh.edu; phone:
