Research Assistant: Molecular & Structural Biochemistry


Expression and purification of recombinant proteins from bacterial and eukaryotic sources.

The North Carolina State University Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry (http://biochem.ncsu.edu) and the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (http://www.sns.gov) have an opening for a research assistant in the Neutron Crystallography group (http://biochem.ncsu.edu/faculty/meilleur/meilleur.html).

The candidate will have extensive experience in expression and purification of recombinant proteins from bacterial sources. Expertise with recombinant DNA techniques including PCR, DNA cloning, mutagenesis, is also desired.

Experience in fermentation and/or protein crystallization would be an asset.

The position will be involved the production of deuterium labeled proteins for neutron scattering experiments - training in deuteration techniques will be provided.

The position requires excellent organizational skills and an ability to work independently. M.S. in biochemistry, molecular biology or a related discipline is required.

The position will be based at ORNL, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The appointment would be for an initial period of one year, extendable to a second year provided sufficient funding is available and mutual agreement. Salary commensurate with experience.
